Penguin Bob

An irreverent, violent penguin. No-one knows why he chose a side in the war, but Penguin Bob was a fierce warrior, and remained loyal to his Warlord.

Notes:

Penguin Bob was the first ever penguin. He started off as an abstract concept, and was basically a violent, wee thing. He eventually worked his way into a comic strip I did for Aberdeen University Science Fiction and Fantasy Society's Fanzine. It was about the crew of a spaceship - and was very silly! It ran for about a strip and a half before the fanzine kind of died, but Penguin Bob lived on, and the first Penguin Picture evolved from a doodle of Penguin Bob running around with a sword.

Albino Penguin

There can be only one! One of the most skilled Penguin warriors, The Albino Penguin's origins are a mystery, but he seems to be everywhere at once...

Notes:

The Albino Penguin has appeared in every Penguin Picture ever drawn (with the exception of those pictures involving just 1 penguin). Technically though, his first real appearance was in my second picture "Iceberg!" The first Picture was just a doodle to keep me awake while working late as a receptionist, but it evolved into something more than that. I drew a follow up picture, with a sort of "Where's Wally" (Or "Where's Waldo" for the Americans) theme, with the Albino Penguin as the character to find. I then went back to "Cry 'Havok' and Let Slip the Penguins of War" and added him in. Over time though, characters and storylines developed, and the type of pictures I was drawing involved less and less penguins drawn at a larger scale, so the original "Where's Wally" idea wouldn't work any more, though he still shows up as my artist's trademark.

Albino Penguin

Bubba Penguin

First Appearance:

Bubba Penguin is one of the largest and strongest Penguins in the known world, and is armed with a colossal battleaxe. It was often wondered why he didn't become a warlord himself, but the life of leadership never appealed to Bubba Penguin.

Notes:

Named after Bubba Smith who played Moses Hightower in the Police Academy films.

Penguin Jack

First Appearance:

A young Penguin from a small village in the South East foothills, Penguin Jack came to the attention of the Emperor Penguin on his journey North, when he saved the village from a rampaging monster single-handed. Penguin Jack became one of the Emperor Penguin's Lieutenants and traveled North with the Army.

Notes:

Penguin Jack was the third penguin character I ever made, but he didn't develop much past the name. I needed a new character for the hero role in this story, so I resurrected Penguin Jack.

The Penguin of the Two Swords

First Appearance:

A mysterious warlord from the West, The Penguin of the Two Swords is a skilled martial artist, and deadly with his twin blades.

Notes:

Named after "Arthur 'Two Sheds' Jackson" from Monty Python.

The Emperor Penguin

First Appearance:

A ruler from the far South, the Emperor Penguin couldn't bear to see the realm of Penguonia devastated by war anymore, so he set out with his small army to try to unite the warring factions. His leadership and charisma lead his army to triumph, either defeating the other warlords in combat, or persuading them to join his cause. The Emperor Penguin is a wise and kind ruler.

Notes:

I see the Emperor Penguin as a King Arthur type of figure. Heroic and noble.

The Penguin Kurgan

First Appearance:

The Penguin Kurgan is the largest and strongest penguin in the known world, and was also the fiercest of all the Penguin Warlords. The Penguin Kurgan is quick to anger and usually looks for the most violent solutions to problems.

The One-Eyed Penguin

First Appearance:

The One-Eyed Penguin is a childhood friend of the Penguin Kurgan. He lost his eye during his first battle fighting alongside his friend. The Penguin Kurgan felt so guilty (as he was the one who started the fight) that he often listens to the One-Eyed Penguin's reason. It was the One-Eyed Penguin who convinced the Penguin Kurgan to join forces with the Emperor Penguin.

Notes:

Eye patches look cool on Penguins.

Penguin Steve

A constant practical Joker, Penguin Steve is one of the best warriors with a spear. He joined up with Jack's quest to escape some trouble he got into in Penguonia.

penguinsteve.png

Penguin Greg

Penguin Steve's long suffering friend, Penguin Greg is always there to hold his friend's spear, and to try and talk some sense into him while he does.

Penguin Ben

Not only a good warrior, Penguin Ben is also a very skilled hunter.

Penguin Karl

First Appearance:

A quiet, stoic warrior from the North, Penguin Karl is unrivaled in the use of the mace.

penguinkarl.png

Penguin Maddock

Penguin Maddock was one of the warriors who stayed behind to defend Garnea when the Emperor Penguin left on his crusade.

Mr Tortoise

First Appearance:

A strange traveller from an unknown land, Mr Tortoise is a genius. He came to the Realm of Penguonia in a flying machine that he had created. He was travelling South to a warmer climate for the winter, but travelled a bit too far. Unappreciated in his homeland, Mr Tortoise has decided to stay in Penguonia with his new friends.

Penguin Bot 2.0

First Appearance:

Mr Tortoise created Penguin Bot 2.0 to help in the fight against the Skeletal forces. Due to a conflict in his programming he attacked the penguins to protect Mr Tortoise. Penguin Bot 2.0 made up for his mistakes and is now one of the protectors of Penguonia.

Penguin Bot 2.0 is armed with Exctendable arms and has heightened vision, strength and speed in excess of a normal penguin.

Notes:

I've always loved robots - probably from the first time I saw R2-D2, so I had to get a robot in here somewhere. I didn't expect it though, but Penguin Bot 2.0 has become one of the most poplar characters in Penguonia.

Penguin Hashim

First Appearance:

Penguin Hasim was the Chieftain’s son in a small settlement. His people were wiped out by marauders while he was out hunting. He met the Penguin of the Two Swords and together they avenged his people.
